In a notable diplomatic advancement, India and China have agreed on new patrolling arrangements along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh. This significant step forward was made in anticipation of the upcoming BRICS Summit, attended by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri announced this development during a special media briefing preceding PM Modi's visit to Russia for the BRICS Summit. He highlighted that discussions with Chinese counterparts led to this agreement, which is expected to foster disengagement and ultimately resolve tensions stemming from Chinese military actions in eastern Ladakh in 2020.

While details about PM Modi's potential bilateral meetings remain undisclosed, the patrolling agreement sets a positive tone for possible interactions with President Xi. The Ministry of External Affairs emphasized the importance of peace and stability along the LAC for normalizing bilateral relations, reinforcing diplomatic and military communications for conflict resolution.
