On Monday, Pakistan's poliovirus tally for 2024 climbed to 68 following the latest report from DI Khan in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, revealed Geo News. This newest case marks the district's tenth incident this year, according to a statement from the National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC).

Among the 68 cases, 27 hail from Balochistan, followed by 20 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and 19 in Sindh. Punjab and Islamabad have each reported a solitary case in 2024. The Pakistan Polio Eradication Programme underscores polio as a 'paralysing' disease with 'no cure,' emphasizing the essential role of vaccination for children under five to enhance immunity.

Pakistan continues to grapple with rising poliovirus challenges. On Thursday, two more cases emerged in Tank and Kashmore, expanding the 2023 incidents to four in Tank and two in Kashmore. Despite a recent vaccination effort, the fight persists with environmental samples showing poliovirus presence in over 80 districts.
