NASA has commenced a significant restructuring of its workforce, resulting in the closure of several critical offices. This move comes in response to an executive order aimed at streamlining federal operations, as outlined in an internal email accessed by ANI.
In the communication sent to NASA employees, Acting Administrator Janet Petro acknowledged the difficulty of the restructuring process, but deemed it necessary to align with the administration's priorities while maintaining efficiency. Petro assured that all federal agencies had been mandated to implement workforce reduction plans, with NASA working closely with the US Office of Personnel Management to ensure compliance.
The phased workforce reduction began with the closure of the Office of Technology, Policy, and Strategy, the Office of the Chief Scientist, and the Diversity and Inclusion branch. These offices have been pivotal in shaping NASA's policies and scientific goals. In her message, Petro expressed gratitude to the impacted employees and reassured them of continuous support during this transition phase.
Despite the ongoing adjustments, Petro reiterated NASA's firm commitment to transparency and its core mission. She urged employees to draw on available resources during this uncertain period and to remain resilient as the agency navigates these changes. She emphasized that NASA's strength lies in its collective dedication to exploration and innovation.
