The US State Department has called on Bangladesh to adhere to human rights principles in light of recent warnings about potential Islamist extremist attacks. Spokesperson Tammy Bruce stated that the US expects Bangladesh and other nations to uphold human rights and fairness for citizens during a press briefing on Monday.
Bruce underlined the significance of human rights in international relations, stressing the expectation that allies such as Bangladesh maintain these standards. "We expect every country, certainly Bangladesh and others... to follow the rules of human rights and to be cognizant and fair regarding the behavior and what their own citizens expect from their government," Bruce explained.
The comments followed criticism from US officials, including the US Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, regarding violence against minorities in Bangladesh. Bruce condemned such violence and urged Bangladesh's interim government to continue ensuring safety and security for all citizens, emphasizing these values as essential for enduring diplomatic ties.
