Tragedy Strikes: Bangkok's Buildings Fall Victim to Myanmar Earthquake

In a catastrophic event, a 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar, its tremors reverberating through parts of Thailand, China, and Vietnam. Among the resulting devastation in Thailand's capital, Bangkok, was the collapse of an under-construction building near JJ Mall in Chatuchak market. Tragically, the calamity claimed the lives of 10 people, left 16 injured, and 101 missing, as reported by Bangkok Deputy Governor Tavida Kamolvej, according to the Bangkok Post.
Pasakorn Boonyalak, director-general of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, revealed the seismic activity caused substantial damage across Bangkok and 10 other provinces including Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai. Further tremors were noted in Mae Hong Son, with the Thailand Meteorological Department reporting additional quakes registering 4.1 and 2.0 magnitudes in the Pai district, spurring concerns of aftershocks.
Following the earthquake, Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra addressed the nation, urging calm amid fears of more tremors, a message echoed after an emergency meeting in Phuket. The government, preoccupied with assessing the damages, reassured the public that state-owned broadcaster NBT will disseminate official updates, avoiding misinformation. Meanwhile, the Indian Embassy in Thailand confirmed no Indian citizens were harmed, maintaining close contact with Thai authorities to ensure their safety.
