In a dramatic conclusion to a nearly 48-hour-long manhunt, police have apprehended Vance Boelter, the suspect accused of fatally shooting Minnesota state Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband, and wounding Senator John Hoffman and his wife. The arrest took place near Boelter's farm in Green Isle, Minnesota.
The search, described as the 'largest manhunt in the state's history,' utilized hundreds of detectives, 20 different SWAT teams, drones, helicopters, and infrared technology. Local authorities were assisted by trail cameras that captured the suspect's image, leading SWAT teams to his location in the woods.
Boelter faces charges of second-degree murder and attempted murder. Officials revealed that he allegedly disguised himself as a police officer to gain access to the lawmakers' homes. Moreover, a supposed target list retrieved from his vehicle included high-profile Minnesota Democrats. These charges could lead to a maximum of 40 years in prison if convicted.
