A body discovered on a melting glacier in Kohistan, Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan, has been identified as Naseer Uddin, who disappeared in 1997. The glacier's retreat, attributed to climate change, revealed his remains, found by local trekkers in the remote Palas region, ARY News reported.
The identification was possible due to a national identity card found with the well-preserved body. Local resident Umar Khan discovered Uddin's remains while trekking and noted that Uddin's family had left Palas due to a feud when the snowstorm tragedy occurred. District Police Officer Amjad Hussain suggested Uddin likely perished after falling into a crevasse.
Separately, a climbing accident in Pakistan claimed the life of German biathlete Laura Dahlmeier, according to the Alpine Club of Pakistan. Dahlmeier died in a landslide in Baltistan, with Faizullah Faraq of the PoGB government confirming her death. Rescue efforts retrieved her body, with preparations underway for its transfer.
