The Nepal Embassy in New Delhi has commended the swift action taken by the Indian Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) after a Nepali citizen was stopped at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) and sent back to Kathmandu. This incident, according to the embassy, stemmed from airline policy, not Indian immigration processes.
In a public post, the embassy voiced its intention to coordinate with relevant stakeholders, including airlines, to prevent future occurrences of similar nature. The incident in question involved Shambhavi Adhikari, a Nepali national traveling to Berlin, who was allegedly detained while attempting to board a Qatar Airways flight in Delhi.
The MHA released an official statement clarifying that the decision to halt Ms. Adhikari's travel was made solely by the airline due to issues concerning visa validity and required travel documentation. The incident was incorrectly depicted as biased or discriminatory against Nepali citizens. After rescheduling, the passenger continued her journey from Kathmandu via an alternative route.
