Capitals sign G Copley to three-year extension

The Washington Capitals signed backup goaltender Pheonix Copley to a three-year, $3.3 million extension, the team announced Monday. Copley is making $650,000 this season in the final campaign of a two-year deal.

Copley, 27, is 10-5-3 with a 2.98 goals-against average and .903 save percentage in 19 appearances (16 starts) this season. The native of North Pole, Alaska had a seven-game unbeaten streak (6-0-1) earlier this season.
