A French naval officer's use of a fitness app has inadvertently exposed the location of the French aircraft carrier, Charles de Gaulle, in the Mediterranean Sea. This security oversight comes amidst escalating tensions in the West Asia region, according to a report by Le Monde.

Le Monde detailed how real-time movements of the 900-foot vessel were revealed after the officer logged a workout via a smartwatch, disclosing its precise location near Cyprus. The incident, which occurred on March 13, raises alarms about the operational security of active military missions, especially considering recent US and Israeli airstrikes in the region.

The fitness app, boasting around 120 million users, is notorious for security issues when utilized by military personnel, as it records geotagged data. This mishap echoes previous security breaches, including instances where personnel linked to world leaders inadvertently exposed confidential information. The French Armed Forces are now considering disciplinary measures.
