In a stark assessment of ongoing international tensions, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi spoke with Al Jazeera about his country's position in the conflict with the United States and Israel. Araghchi asserted that while Tehran maintains diplomatic communications, these do not constitute formal negotiations.
During the interview, Araghchi emphasized Iran's territorial claims over the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial waterway for global oil and gas transportation. He insisted that the strait, shared with Oman, should be governed by local authorities following the conflict, while being closed to enemy nations during wartime.
Addressing the potential for a US ground invasion, Araghchi expressed confidence in Iran's defensive capabilities, warning Washington against any such attempts. As regional powers seek to mediate peace, Iran remains steadfast in its conditions for resolving the hostilities.
