Man charged with harassment, public order offence over protest against MP

British prosecutors have charged a man with harassment and public order offences after he protested outside the Houses of Parliament against a lawmaker who is opposed to Brexit. The Crown Prosecution Service said in a statement that James Goddard, 29, had been charged following two incidents outside parliament in December and January, as lawmakers struggled to find a breakthrough over the terms of Britain's departure from the European Union.

Protesters from all sides of the Brexit debate have often gathered around parliament, especially on key days when lawmakers are voting on the terms of Britain's departure. Goddard is also charged with two public order offences against a police officer and will appear in court on March 19.
