External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar is set to embark on an official tour of Jamaica, Suriname, and Trinidad and Tobago from May 2 to May 10. The trip is part of India's ongoing efforts to enhance ties with Caribbean and African nations, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced.
The visit highlights the importance of India's historical and cultural connections with these countries, particularly due to their Girmitiya communities. Jaishankar will hold discussions with the leadership of each nation, addressing bilateral relations and regional and global issues of mutual interest.
The MEA emphasized that this visit aims to cement India's political engagement with Jamaica, Suriname, and Trinidad and Tobago, reflecting a mutual commitment to South-South cooperation. Jaishankar will also meet business leaders and engage with the Indian diaspora to further deepen these connections.
