Vivek Ramaswamy: From Biotech Billionaire to Ohio Gubernatorial Front-runner
Indian-origin Republican Vivek Ramaswamy clinches the GOP nomination for Ohio Governor, facing Democrat Amy Acton in November. Backed by Donald Trump, Ramaswamy's campaign boasts significant funding, positioning him as a formidable contender. His past role in national politics and strong local support are vital assets as the race progresses.
Indian-origin Republican leader Vivek Ramaswamy has officially secured the GOP nomination for Ohio Governor, following projections by CBS News after Tuesday's primary election. The biotech billionaire will face Democrat Amy Acton, the former Ohio Department of Public Health director, who ran unopposed in the primary, in the high-stakes November showdown.
The path was cleared for Ramaswamy after key contenders exited the race. Attorney General Dave Yost withdrew following state Republican backing for Ramaswamy, and former Ohio State University football coach Jim Tressel chose not to enter the fray. Consequently, Ramaswamy's victory over business owner Casey Putsch, known as "The Car Guy," was decisive.
Despite another candidate, Heather Hill, appearing on the ballot, her votes were invalidated due to her running mate's withdrawal. This political rise of Ramaswamy follows his significant presence in the 2024 presidential race and his alignment with Donald Trump. He resigned from a governmental position at the "Department of Government Efficiency" to pursue political ambitions, entering the general election with substantial financial backing.
