The Washington Capitals acquired forward Carl Hagelin from the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for two draft picks, including a third-rounder this year, both teams announced Thursday. It's the second time Hagelin has been traded this year; the 30-year-old started the season in Pittsburgh.

"We felt this trade enables us to add depth up front and provides us with a veteran player with a tremendous amount of speed to help us on the penalty kill," Capitals general manager Brian MacLellan said in a statement. The Kings, who now have 10 picks in the 2019 draft, also received a conditional sixth-round pick in the 2020 draft.

Hagelin, a two-time Stanley Cup winner, recorded five points in 22 games with the Kings and posted three points in 16 games with the Penguins. For his career, the Swede has 90 goals and 140 assists in 526 games. Hagelin was selected by the New York Rangers in the sixth round of the 2007 draft.
