Brazil Ups Its Air Dominance with Additional Gripen Purchase
Brazil plans to acquire 20 more Gripen E and F fighter jets from Saab, as revealed by Swedish Defence Minister Pal Jonson. The jets will be produced in Brazil, strengthening defence collaboration between the two nations. The expansion follows Brazil's initial 2014 agreement for 36 jets.
In a bid to strengthen its air capabilities, Brazil has expressed a keen interest in purchasing 20 additional Gripen E and F fighter jets from Swedish manufacturer Saab, according to Swedish Defence Minister Pal Jonson.
The announcement came during a joint press conference in Stockholm, where Jonson emphasized that the aircraft would be manufactured domestically in Brazil. This move follows Brazil's 2014 agreement to buy 36 Gripen jets, further solidifying the military partnership between the two countries.
In a formal declaration, both nations have pledged to deepen their defence collaboration. Saab is set to establish a research and development unit in Brazil, marking a significant step towards closer ties. The first of these Gripen jets have already been delivered, with more expected by 2027.
