Human rights defender Tasleema Akhter has condemned the alleged violence in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) by the Pakistan Army. Akhter highlighted suspended internet services and restrictions on journalism as means to suppress the truth, urging global intervention to address the civil rights violations in the region.
Tasleema Akhter, a prominent human rights advocate from Jammu and Kashmir and Chairperson of the Association of Terror Victims in Kashmir, has issued a strong condemnation against what she describes as violence and force used by the Pakistan Army in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). She appealed to global human rights organizations to vocally oppose these alleged violations, which have led to severe civilian bloodshed.
Akhter also criticized the suspension of internet services in PoJK, arguing that it's an effort to stifle the voices of locals and block information from reaching the global sphere. She stressed that despite these attempts, it remains impossible to conceal the truth in today's interconnected world.
She expressed solidarity with the residents of PoJK, emphasizing their demands for fundamental rights and better public services. Akhter noted that the repression faced by the civilians is unacceptable and called for international attention to the curtailment of journalistic freedom and democratic processes in the region.
