The Vancouver Canucks made a trade with an eye toward the future, acquiring 19-year-old forward Linus Karlsson from the San Jose Sharks on Monday in exchange for forward Jonathan Dahlen, both teams announced. Karlsson, 19, a third-round pick in 2018 by the Sharks, has 17 points in 48 games for Karlskrona HK in the Allsvenskan in Sweden. Last season, he had 27 goals and 25 assists for Karlskrona Junior of Sweden's SuperElit league, where he was named top player.

Dahlen, 21, is a former second-round pick by the Ottawa Senators in 2016. Dahlen was named MVP of the Allsvenskan in 2017-18 while scoring 23 goals with Timra. He is currently at Utica of the AHL, where he has 14 goals and 15 assists in 50 games.
