Talks in Rome between the United States and Russia over the crisis in Venezuela were difficult but frank, the RIA news agency cited Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov as saying on Tuesday. Russia warned the United States not to intervene militarily in Venezuela, a Moscow ally, and said it was increasingly concerned by U.S. sanctions on the Latin American country, Ryabkov was quoted as saying.

One of the world's biggest news stories on March 4 was the daring return to Venezuela of opposition leader and self-proclaimed interim president Juan Guaidó, who faced possible arrest by the authoritarian regime of Nicolás Maduro.

Maduro makes heavy use of state-run TV and radio, while opposition leaders rely almost solely on the internet to transmit news and information about upcoming demonstrations and activities.
