Two Indians arrested in Nepal for smuggling cannabis

Two Indian nationals were arrested in Nepal on Sunday for allegedly trying to smuggle over 50 kilogrammes of cannabis to India, police said. Amar Jeet Singh, 32, a resident of Besaligram, Bihar was arrested from Hetauda sub-metropolitan city by the Nepal Police which seized 48.5 kilogrammes of cannabis from him.

It was hidden inside a car, police said, adding that the Indian national was arrested during a security check. In a separate incident, 50-year-old Indian national Kamaruddin Ansari, a resident of Majhpur in West Bengal, was arrested along with 5 kilogrammes of the drug.

He was arrested from Bramhapuri rural municipality of Sarlahi district as he was travelling on foot towards India carrying the drug in a bag, police said. The police have initiated a legal action against the two Indian nationals, they said.
