Japan and the United States still need to work to narrow their differences on trade, Japan's economy minister said on Saturday. Toshimitsu Motegi made the comment to reporters following a meeting with U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer.

Motegi also said he did not expect total or partial agreement on trade at a U.S.-Japan leaders summit on Monday. There was also no discussion of U.S. President Trump's decision to declare some auto imports a national security threat, he said.
