'No move to inaugurate circuit bench till Prez's nod received'

The Calcutta High Court administration has communicated to the Law Ministry that it would not make any move towards inaugurating the circuit bench at Jalpaiguri till the president's nod is obtained, a division bench was informed Sunday.

Additional Solicitor General (ASG) Kaushik Chanda informed the division bench of the Calcutta High Court that the communication has been sent to the Department of Justice, the Ministry of Law and Justice.

The division bench, comprising justices Joymalyo Bagchi

and Arijit Banerjee then directed the ASG to circulate the

communication to all the petitioners in connection with the inauguration of the circuit bench.

A few writ petitions and public interest litigations (PILs)were filed bringing up various issues, including the state's prerogative to declare the date of inauguration and the choice of a dak bungalow for housing the circuit bench till new premises is built on a designated land.

40-acre land given by the state government for the purpose.
