Expulsion of EU envoy deepens Venezuela isolation, EU says

Venezuela's decision to expel the European Union's envoy to Caracas will further isolate the South American nation, the EU said on Wednesday, calling on the Venezuelan government to reconsider the move.

"The EU profoundly regrets this decision, which will only lead to further international isolation of Venezuela. We call for this decision to be reversed," said Nabila Massrali, a spokeswoman for EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell.

"Venezuela will only overcome its ongoing crisis through negotiation and dialogue, to which the EU is fully committed but which this decision undermines directly," Massrali said in a statement.
