NGT asks Palwal municipal corp to take measures for hygiene around waste processing facility

According to the applicant, site is against the norms, being within 200 meters from the village habitation, temple, school, pond and other such buildings.

The National Green Tribunal has directed the Palwal municipal corporation in Haryana to take measures for hygiene, control of odor, and maintenance of green belts around a waste processing facility.

A bench headed by NGT Chairperson Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel said if the facility in question is a transfer station/processing facility and not a landfill site, all due measures need to be taken to prevent nuisance to the people in general. "Municipal Committee, Hodal (in Palwal) may ensure that local waste is transported to one site for processing and disposal instead of multiple sites.

"It may be examined whether considering the size of waste generation, there is need for a transfer station. Whether setting up of waste processing and disposal facility together may be more appropriate," the bench said.
