The Special Task Force (STF) of Kolkata Police arrested one more person in connection with its probe into an illegal telecom installation case that was operating from the Kasba area of the city, a police officer said on Friday. Acting on the information gathered from another arrested accused, the STF held the second man, a resident of Moiradanga Road in Baranagar Police Station limits, on Thursday night, she said.

''He was the partner of the other arrested accused. Used to run some SIM boxes himself. After the arrest of the first person, this person was alerted after which he destroyed the SIM boxes as per his statement...,'' the police officer said.

The man has been booked under relevant sections of the IPC and the Indian Telegraph Act 1885 and the Indian Wireless Telegraphy Act 1933, the IPS officer said.

On Tuesday night, the STF had arrested one person from the city's Kasba area for allegedly running an illegal telecom installation.

Acting on a complaint received from the Department of Telecom (DOT) a 35-year-old accused was arrested from Swinhoe Lane in Kasba Police Station limits.

The illegal telecom installation was terminating the ISD/VOIP calls and bypassing the legal international gateways of domestic operators.

During the raid, three actively running Sim-boxes with a total of 512 slots and containing 73 active SIM, one CPU, three routers, one media converter, two mobile phones sets, and one pen drive were seized.

Based on the DOT complaint a case was also registered at the Kasba Police Station under relevant sections of the IPC as well as the Indian Telegraph Act 1885 and Indian Wireless Telegraphy Act 1933, the officer said.
