The government on Friday announced the revival of awards to recognise mediapersons' efforts to create awareness about yoga.
Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur said the ministry would give away 33 'Antarashtriya Yoga Diwas Media Samman' awards -- 11 each in print, television and radio categories -- to commend the role that the media plays in promoting yoga, both within India and abroad.
This is the second edition of the awards, which were suspended during the Covid pandemic.
''The Samman will be recommended by an independent jury. The Samman will comprise a special media/plaque/trophy and a citation,'' the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting said in a statement.
''The guidelines require media houses to submit details in a prescribed format along with relevant clippings of article(s) created and published or audio/visual content telecast/broadcast made during the period 10th June 2023 to 25th June 2023. The last date for entries is 1st July 2023,'' it said.
The ministry first instituted the 'Antarashtriya Yoga Diwas Media Samman' in June 2019. The first awards were conferred on January 7, 2020.
Since 2015, the International Day of Yoga has been celebrated on June 21 every year.
The idea of the International Day of Yoga was proposed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his address at the United Nations General Assembly on September 27, 2014.
As many as 177 countries co-sponsored a resolution moved by India at the UN on the International Day of Yoga.
