Ireland's unemployment rate rose to a 19-month high of 4.8% in October from an upwardly revised 4.7% in September after the Central Statistics Office (CSO) also pushed up its estimates for the three months prior to that.

Previous CSO figures had put the jobless rate near record lows of between 4.1% and 4.3% all year, but the changes on Thursday amended the rate to 4.5% in August and 4.4% in both June and July.

Data from recruitment website Indeed showed last month that job postings had begun to fall quite sharply, in a sign of a softening in Ireland's tight labour market.
