SI Panbendra Das, in-charge of Dhamdhoma police outpost under Ghoghrapara Police Station, was caught by an Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) team led by deputy superintendent of police when he was accepting the alleged bribe amount from complainant Hussain Ali, a police spokesman said.
The accused had allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 20,000 for providing relaxation in a cross-case, he said. The complainant had already paid the first "instalment" of Rs 4,000 yesterday, the spokesman said.
The official added that the complainant was the father of a recent rape victim, who is a minor. The accused in the rape case was arrested by district police and the family of the arrested accused had filed a cross-case relating to a loan matter against the father of the rape victim.
