Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan has urged the three branches of the Indian Armed Forces to develop a Joint Culture as they progress towards forming Joint Operational Structures. Speaking at the 22nd Major General Samir Sinha Memorial Lecture in New Delhi, Gen Chauhan introduced the concept of Jointness 2.0, emphasizing its role in advancing beyond the initial phase of inter-service cooperation.
General Chauhan highlighted the importance of creating a new, unified culture within the armed forces that respects and integrates the unique attributes of each service. He outlined that this Joint Culture would incorporate the best practices from each branch, aiming for the highest standards rather than a compromise.
The CDS emphasized that the development of Jointness and Integration is crucial for establishing Integrated Theatre Commands, which will streamline operational functions and enhance security focus. He explained that these commands would separate operational responsibilities from administrative tasks, enabling more effective military operations.
General Chauhan also noted that the establishment of Integrated Theatre Commands would mark the beginning of further reforms, including the transition to multi-domain operations and the integration of advanced technologies like space and cyber capabilities into traditional military domains. He stressed the necessity of these reforms in response to evolving global security challenges and the rapid advancement of technology.
