Himachal Villagers Boycott Elections Over Lack of Basic Amenities

The residents of Makhan, Chachul, and Juri in Churah subdivision, Himachal Pradesh, boycotted the Lok Sabha elections, demanding basic amenities like road connectivity, internet, and electricity. With the district administration allegedly ignoring their grievances, villagers threatened further agitation if their demands remained unmet.

The residents of Makhan, Chachul, and Juri villages in Churah subdivision of Himachal Pradesh's Chamba district boycotted the Lok Sabha elections on Saturday. Their demand: road connectivity to their remote villages.

These villagers, under the Sanval and Charda gram panchayats, have been vocal about their needs but claim the district administration has repeatedly ignored their grievances. 'We will not vote until the district administration comes here and listens to our grievances,' stated Ravi, a local.

According to Mukesh Kumar, a resident of Makhan village, the lack of basic facilities like internet, road, and electricity has made life difficult. He recounted instances where patients had to be carried on foot for 4-5 km to reach the nearest health center, sometimes resulting in fatalities due to delayed treatment.
