Six men were arrested and a juvenile detained for allegedly raping a minor and extorting money from her in Ajmer, Rajasthan, police officials announced on Monday.

Authorities registered a case on May 31, leading to the arrest of two suspects, including the main accused, Irfan, on Sunday. Circle Officer (North) and Investigating Officer Rudra Prakash Sharma stated that four additional suspects were apprehended on Monday.

The ordeal began in December when the primary accused, Irfan, befriended the minor through social media. He coerced her into sharing her Instagram password, then sent manipulated messages and altered photos to her acquaintances. Over the next few months, Irfan raped and blackmailed the girl, eventually extorting money from her. His accomplices, whose roles are still under investigation, allegedly assisted him.

The matter came to light when the victim's father noticed her stealing money. Authorities have formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to delve deeper, ensuring no other victims are overlooked.

Simultaneously, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) staged a protest at the Superintendent of Police's office, demanding swift and severe action against the perpetrators. BJP district president Ramesh Soni stressed the need for a detailed investigation to prevent potential recurrences, referencing a related 1992 scandal where multiple girls were raped and blackmailed.

Neeraj Jain, Deputy Mayor of the Ajmer Municipal Corporation, urged the police to broaden their inquiry to identify additional suspects potentially involved.
