In a significant development, five Naxalites, including a couple, surrendered to authorities on Monday in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district, police sources confirmed. The surrender came amidst dissatisfaction with the 'inhuman' and 'hollow' ideology of the Maoist movement, according to police spokespeople.

The individuals have been identified as Madkam Pandu, his wife Ravva Bhime, Tati/Madkam Masa, Komram Dula, and Muka Sodhi alias Shekhar. Sukma Superintendent of Police Kiran Chavan reported that Pandu, who had a reward of Rs 8 lakh on his head, served as the deputy commander of the People's Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA) battalion number 1 supply team and was a member of the People's Party Committee.

Others surrendered included Bhime, a PLGA member with a Rs 1 lakh bounty, Masa, a medical team in-charge with a Rs 5 lakh bounty, Dula with a Rs 2 lakh bounty, and Shekhar, a member of the South Sub-Zonal Bureau Press team, with a Rs 1 lakh bounty. Each of these individuals had been part of multiple violent incidents. Authorities confirmed that they would be provided with facilities as per the state government's surrender and rehabilitation policy.
