Villagers Clash Over Powerline Project in Maharashtra

In Thane district, Maharashtra, a case has been registered against nine individuals accused of hindering the construction of powerlines in Goteghar village, police reported on Sunday.

The incident occurred on Friday within the jurisdiction of Shil-Daighar police station. Enraged villagers allegedly hurled stones at the JCB engaged in the digging operations and threatened self-immolation, according to officials.

Under the Indian Penal Code sections 336 (endangering life or personal safety), 341 (wrongful restraint), 427 (mischief causing property damage), and other pertinent provisions, a case has been lodged. Senior Inspector Sandeepan Shinde confirmed that an investigation is in progress, although no arrests have been made yet.
