The Commissioner of the Border Management Authority (BMA), Dr. Michael Masiapato, has categorically dismissed assertions concerning the functionality and effectiveness of the passenger movement processing system at OR Tambo International Airport (ORTIA).
In response to several inaccurate reports circulating about purported systemic transitions at ORTIA in Gauteng, the BMA has expressed deep concern. These misleading reports have unnecessarily stirred apprehension among travelers and stakeholders alike.
Dr. Masiapato has firmly rebutted the claims and reiterated the authority's unwavering commitment to upholding a robust, secure, and efficient border management system.
He emphasized, "The current processing systems at BMA Immigration services are fully operational and adept at handling high volumes of traffic efficiently."
Contrary to public speculation, there are no systemic challenges at ORTIA or any other ports under BMA jurisdiction. Official records confirm that average processing times at ORTIA remain well within acceptable international standards.
"We continuously monitor and analyze processing times to proactively identify and address any potential bottlenecks," Dr. Masiapato assured.
The BMA underscored its primary focus on law enforcement activities at all ports, as well as ensuring the safety and security of all individuals entering and exiting the country.
"Our systems are equipped with advanced security features to detect and deter unauthorized entry. Additionally, the BMA maintains close collaboration with key stakeholders such as Airports Company South Africa and customs authorities to ensure a seamless border management process," the statement added.
The BMA urged the public to rely on official communications from the authority for accurate information regarding border management affairs.
