An Indian expatriate, Lukose, tragically lost his life in a devastating fire that swept through a seven-storey building in Kuwait on Wednesday. The blaze claimed at least 49 lives and injured 50 others, mostly smoke inhalation victims, according to Kuwaiti media outlets.

Lukose was planning to return home next month to celebrate his elder daughter’s excellent performance in her board exams and facilitate her admission to a nursing course in Bengaluru. The mobile phone he had bought as a gift for her now remains a poignant symbol of his unfulfilled intentions.

Friends, church members, and relatives made desperate attempts to locate Lukose after the fire, initially hoping for positive news. However, their worst fears were confirmed when the police verified his death later that evening. Lukose is survived by his elderly parents, wife, and two daughters.
