Pune Police Nab Eight After Violent 'Billhook' Attack

Eight individuals have been arrested by Pune police following a violent billhook attack in Kirkatwadi village. The assault, which injured three family members, occurred over a petty issue. Authorities have filed charges under multiple IPC sections. MP Supriya Sule has demanded stricter action against such groups.

In a significant development, Pune police have apprehended eight individuals after a violent billhook attack on the outskirts of the city. The shocking incident, which resulted in injuries to three family members, took place in Kirkatwadi village, Sinhgad Road area, on Thursday night.

According to the FIR, a group of 10-15 people stormed into a home in Bhairavnath Nagar, attacking a youth, his mother, and an elderly relative. The chaos was reportedly sparked by a petty issue. The authorities have registered a case under several Indian Penal Code sections, including attempt to murder, molestation, and rioting. A minor was also taken into custody, confirmed Sachin Wangade, senior inspector of Haveli police station.

Reacting to the incident, Baramati MP Supriya Sule criticized the police for their delayed response to the complaint. She expressed concern about the recurring threat posed by 'koyta' gangs in Pune, attributing it to the inactivity of the Home department and a diminishing fear of the law. Sule has urged the Superintendent of Police (Pune rural) to enforce strict measures against such criminal elements.
