Bihar Police Embraces Revolutionary Criminal Laws with Tech-Driven Strategies

The Bihar Police is fully prepared to implement new criminal laws starting Monday, involving significant technological upgrades, extensive training, and awareness programs. The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam will replace outdated British-era laws, promising a modernized criminal justice system in Bihar.

The Bihar Police is set to implement new criminal laws starting Monday, marking a significant shift from British-era legislation to more modern regulations. Officials noted the state's comprehensive preparations involving technological upgrades, capacity-building, and awareness programs.

The new legislations—Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam—aim to modernize the criminal justice system. Senior officers and judicial officials statewide have received extensive training to facilitate a seamless transition.

“The state government’s holistic approach underscores its commitment to a more efficient criminal justice system,” stated Sudhanshu Kumar, ADG of Bihar Police. Enhanced forensic capabilities and the integration of the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & Systems (CCTNS) highlight the technological leaps made. New provisions include Zero FIR, online FIR registration, electronic summonses, and mandatory crime scene videography for serious offenses.
