NCW member Delina Khongdup on Sunday inspected the residence of a BJP woman leader who was reportedly stripped and tortured in West Bengal's Coochbehar district. The ongoing investigation will disregard the victim's political affiliations, affirmed the commission's representative.
BJP state general secretary Agnimitra Paul, who led a delegation to the district's Mathabhanga area, alleged that TMC miscreants attacked the woman leader on June 25 while she tended to cattle. Paul called for a CBI inquiry, accusing the local police of inaction.
Khongdup assured the victim's mother of heightened security and engaged with Mathabhanga police officials, with plans to discuss the case further with the Superintendent of Police on July 1.
Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari announced plans for a sit-in protest at the assembly's main gate, condemning the assault on the minority community woman. He criticized West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's silence on the matter, contrasting her reaction to other incidents of violence across the country.
Meanwhile, a police official suggested the incident stemmed from a domestic dispute, with seven out of ten accused already apprehended. TMC spokesperson Partha Pratim Roy accused the BJP of exploiting a family issue for political gain.
