Meghalaya Registers First FIR Under Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita

The first FIR under the provisions of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita in Meghalaya was officially registered in Ri-Bhoi district, according to police sources on Tuesday.

Superintendent of Police Jagpal Dhanoa stated that the case was lodged at Nongpoh Police Station following a complaint by Joel Syngkli, who reported his bike stolen on Monday. The case falls under section 303 (2) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita, which pertains to theft.

The Director General of Police, I Nongrang, has mandated that awareness programs at the police station level be held statewide to educate the public about the new criminal laws. These initiatives will continue in the coming days and weeks.
