Opposition Congress-led UDF MLA M Vincent claimed that activists from the Students Federation of India (SFI), associated with the ruling CPI(M), physically assaulted him outside the Sreekaryam police station.

The MLA arrived at the station to support Kerala Students Union (KSU) members protesting the alleged beating of one of their leaders inside the University of Kerala campus during the night of July 2-3.

The situation further escalated, culminating in heated verbal and physical exchanges between KSU and SFI activists. Both sides eventually agreed to end their protests after receiving assurances of legal action regarding their respective complaints.
