Expressing shock over the distressing incidents of assault in Ariadaha, located in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district, Governor CV Ananda Bose on Wednesday called out the alarming deterioration in the state's law and order under the Mamata Banerjee government.
He strongly condemned the brutal attacks on a woman and her son last week, in addition to another assault on a woman in the same area two years ago, which recently came to light through a video clip.
''This is shocking and unthinkable. The video clips depict a dire scenario in contemporary West Bengal. The state government must clarify what measures it has taken to uphold law and order,'' Bose said in a statement directed at the chief minister.
Mamata Banerjee, who holds the police department portfolio, came under direct scrutiny from the Governor.
''What is the police minister doing? Why is the minister silent? She must come forth with a clarification,'' Bose told PTI.
The police have arrested six individuals, including prime suspect local Trinamool Congress leader Jayant Singh, for their presumed involvement in these incidents.
