Sprinter Sues Gatorade Over Doping Ban Linked to Contaminated Gummies

Surinamese sprinter Issamade Asinga has taken legal action against the Gatorade Company, claiming that contaminated 'recovery gummies' were responsible for his recent doping ban. In a lawsuit filed in Manhattan federal court, Asinga alleged that Gatorade provided him with gummies that were not 'NSF Certified for Sport' as advertised and contained banned substances.

The 19-year-old sprinter was handed a four-year suspension by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) in May, which resulted in the loss of his two South American Championship gold medals and under-20 100 meters world record. Asinga is seeking economic damages for lost earnings and scholarship opportunities.

According to the lawsuit, Gatorade provided a sealed bottle from a different lot of gummies to the AIU, misleadingly suggesting its relevance to Asinga's case. PepsiCo, which owns Gatorade, has yet to respond to the allegations.
