The Indian Jute Mills Association (IJMA) has called upon West Bengal Labour Minister Moloy Ghatak, expressing serious concerns regarding violent assaults on management personnel and unlawful strikes at member mills.
In a recent letter, IJMA underscored ongoing worker indiscipline and stated that management endeavors to enforce discipline and enhance productivity were being thwarted by a section of workers, aided by trade union representatives.
The letter cited a violent attack on management personnel and unlawful strikes at Alliance Mills (Lessees) Ltd., causing widespread panic and uncertainty among managerial staff.
This climate of fear has led to a noticeable drop in production and productivity across the affected jute mills, according to the association.
Additional concerns were raised about vandalism incidents that threaten the security of the mills' infrastructure and machinery, vital to the industry's survival against numerous challenges.
IJMA urged the state government to take strict action against trade unions inciting workers unlawfully and to educate local authorities and law enforcement to respond promptly to reports of such incidents.
The association expressed optimism that the state government’s intervention would restore confidence in jute mill management and foster the industry's growth and development.
