CISF and BSF to Reserve 10% Posts for Ex-Agniveers

The CISF and BSF chiefs announced that 10% of constable posts will be reserved for former Agniveers, aligning with a decision by the Union Home Ministry. This move aims to integrate trained and disciplined personnel from the Agnipath scheme into their forces, offering age and physical test relaxations.

The chiefs of CISF and the BSF on Thursday confirmed that 10% of constable posts will be set aside for former Agniveers, in accordance with a decision by the Union Home Ministry.

The announcement by CISF Director General Nina Singh and BSF Director General Nitin Agrawal follows heightened attention on the Agnipath recruitment scheme, designed for short-term induction into the Army, Navy, and Air Force.

Director General Singh revealed, "In physical tests, ex-Agniveers will receive exemptions, along with age relaxations: five years in the first year and three years in subsequent years." This initiative benefits the CISF by attracting experienced and disciplined personnel.

Launched in June 2022, the Agnipath scheme aims to lower the age profile of the armed services. It recruits youths aged 17-and-a-half to 21 years for four-year terms, retaining 25% for an additional 15 years.

The CISF and BSF chiefs emphasized the benefits of this decision, particularly in reinforcing their forces with trained ex-Agniveers. Agrawal added that 10% of BSF vacancies will also be reserved, ensuring swift deployment with minimal additional training.
