Former chief of Telangana's Special Intelligence Bureau (SIB), T Prabhakar Rao, has categorically denied the allegations of phone tapping and termed them as “wild and false”. Currently in the US for medical treatment, Rao wrote to the Investigating Officer (IO), affirming he has never committed nor directed any unlawful activities during his tenure.
Rao mentioned his doctors have advised against traveling until his health stabilizes due to potential severe consequences if untreated. Despite health issues, Rao assured full cooperation with the investigation and offered to provide any necessary information via email.
Since March 13, the Hyderabad Police have arrested a suspended DSP, two Additional Superintendents of Police, and a former Deputy Commissioner of Police in connection to erasing intelligence data and unauthorized phone tapping during the previous BRS regime. Rao himself faces accusations of creating a “Special Operations Team” for political surveillance.
He emphasized his willingness to assist in the investigation through video conferencing until he can return to India. The suspended officers are alleged to have compiled profiles on hundreds of people and intercepted phone calls, actions reportedly taken to benefit a political party.
