Senior TMC leader and MLA Madan Mitra on Thursday claimed he received a threatening phone call after criticizing arrested party leader Jayant Singh. This follows party MP Sougata Roy's similar complaint a day earlier.

Roy stated on Wednesday that he received a phone call threatening to kill him if Singh was not released soon. Mitra, speaking to a news channel, said he too received a call from an unknown number late Wednesday night, warning him to stop speaking against Singh and his associates, or he would be shot dead. Both leaders have lodged police complaints.

Jayant Singh, a TMC leader from Ariadaha in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district, was arrested last week for his involvement in a June 30 mob violence incident and assault on a college student and his mother. Singh is the prime suspect, and multiple arrests have been made in connection. Singh had previously been arrested in 2023 and was out on bail, promising no further illegal activities, a condition he has reportedly violated.
