Following multiple bridge collapses in Bihar, the Uttar Pradesh government has ordered a thorough survey of all bridges within the state, including 700 old structures. This decision comes after Bihar witnessed its 13th bridge collapse in three weeks.

Speaking to PTI, UP's Minister of State for PWD Brijesh Singh confirmed Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's directive to inspect all bridges due to the spate of incidents in the neighboring state. Singh mentioned that while the exact number of unfit bridges remains undetermined, the survey is still ongoing.

With over 1,000 bridges managed by the Public Works Department (PWD), the survey will identify those that require major repairs, including 80 bridges already noted. Unfit bridges will be closed to traffic, and repairable ones will undergo necessary maintenance.
