A Congress leader and sarpanch, along with two unidentified persons, were booked on Friday for allegedly assaulting a man and garlanding him with slippers in Seoni district, Madhya Pradesh. A video of the incident has gone viral on social media.
The incident took place on the night of July 9 when the victim, Sahtar Yadav, went out to buy chewing tobacco, according to Kanhiwada police station inspector Kripal Singh Tekam. Chhatarpur village sarpanch Sudhir Jain and two others were booked under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita provisions.
Tekam said, 'Jain accused Yadav of being drunk, assaulted him along with two others, and incited women in the mob to garland Yadav with slippers amid slaps. Yadav left the place in fear while many in the crowd recorded the incident. Jain and the two others are on the run, and efforts are being made to apprehend them.'
In the viral video, Jain can be seen slapping Yadav while women attempt to put slippers around his neck.
