Cop Charged with Rs 51 Lakh Fraud in Jammu

The crime branch of Jammu and Kashmir Police has filed a chargesheet against Head Constable Guzar Ahmad Wani for defrauding Assistant Sub-Inspector Mohd Rafiq and his daughter of Rs 51 lakh. Wani allegedly promised them land and government jobs. An investigation confirmed the allegations, resulting in formal charges.

The Crime Branch of Jammu and Kashmir Police filed a chargesheet on Saturday against Head Constable Guzar Ahmad Wani, accusing him of duping his senior colleague and his daughter of Rs 51 lakh, promising land and government jobs, according to a senior officer.

The chargesheet was presented in the court of the excise magistrate in Jammu. Senior Superintendent of Police (special crime wing) Crime Branch Jammu, Sandeep Mehta, said the case pertains to last year when Wani, currently posted in district police lines Srinagar, allegedly committed the fraud.

Wani tricked Assistant Sub-Inspector Mohd Rafiq and his daughter Mehnaz Rafiq, among others, by claiming to have influential connections, Mehta added. The subsequent investigation confirmed the allegations, leading to Wani’s charges.
