The Election Commission of India has lauded the ongoing second special summary revision programme for 2024 in Jharkhand's East Singhbhum district as 'satisfactory,' according to Principal Secretary Arvind Anand.

With assembly elections approaching, a review meeting was held at the East Singhbhum Collectorate Auditorium under Anand's chairmanship. During the meeting, Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer Ananya Mittal provided a detailed presentation on the activities related to the voter revision programme. Key aspects discussed included updates to the voter list, door-to-door verification, digitization processes, and the renewal and distribution of voter ID cards. Facilities at polling stations and public grievance resolution were also addressed.

The District Election Officer revealed that pending voter registration applications are being handled in mission mode. All Revising and Assistant Election Registration Officers have been directed to ensure a flawless, updated voter list. Special campaigns are being conducted to include youths, disabled individuals, women, and PVTGs.

Additionally, Sharmila Majhi, the widow of John Majhi, who died on duty during the recent Lok Sabha poll, was granted an ex-gratia cheque of Rs 15 lakhs.
